Jeffries primed to formally launch 2014 campaign for Newark mayor

NEWARK - The Boys and Girls clubs hosted the professionally staged announcement for Shavar Jeffries' Mayoral candidacy announcement. Over 400 supporters packed the gym, some of whom had already committed to the candidate, while others were still undecided.
"I grew up in a beautiful and courageous and brave place called Newark. I'm from a place where we took what we had and made what we needed," said the mayoral candidate.
A native Newarker, Jeffries graduated from Seton Hall Prep High School, attended Duke for his undergraduate degree and Columbia Law School where he obtained his law degree.

NEWARK - Shavar Jeffries, a former state Assistant Attorney General and charter school president, made official his bid to succeed Cory Booker as mayor of Newark tonight in a packed house announcement at the Newark Boys And Girls Club.
"I grew up in a beautiful and courageous and brave place called Newark," Jeffries told a capacity crowd of about 300 Newarkers. "I'm from a place wehre we took what we had and made what we needed."
He cited crime, education and job growth as his major priorities
